Exerting power in Doing Good is Man's Glorious Task

In the words of the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, “To exert his power in doing good is man’s glorious task.” If we break it down and really feel the weight of this message, it’s like Sophocles is telling us: "Gamitin mo ang kakayahan mo para gumawa ng mabuti. Doon ka tunay na magiging dakila."

- In a world that’s constantly pushing for clout, material gains, and fleeting validation, this quote feels like a deep reminder of what truly matters.

For Gen Z and Millennials, we live in a time where the word “power” can take on many forms. It’s no longer just about political authority or physical strength. Power now comes in our ability to connect with others, to influence mindsets, to innovate, and even to spark change using social media platforms. We have tools at our fingertips that earlier generations couldn’t have dreamed of. But with great power comes great responsibility—“like legit, ikaw na’yong may chance to shift the narrative, so what are you doing about it?”

Imagine this: you’re scrolling on TikTok or Instagram, and you come across creators who use their platform not just for entertainment but for advocacy. They champion mental health, call for climate action, educate about social justice, or simply make people laugh on their hardest days. What they’re doing is exactly what Sophocles envisioned centuries ago—using their influence, their power, to make the world a better place. And here’s the thing: you don’t need millions of followers to do this. Kahit small acts lang, basta coming from the heart, it’s still power in action.

Think about it in everyday terms. Power isn’t always about grand gestures. It’s in small, consistent efforts: choosing kindness in a heated argument, lifting up a friend who’s struggling, or standing up for someone who’s being wronged. Kahit simpleng bagay like sharing verified information instead of fake news, that’s you exerting your power to do good. Di ba ang fulfilling knowing na kahit papaano, nakakatulong ka?

But let’s be real: doing good isn’t always easy. May mga times na nakakapagod, especially when it feels like the world isn’t changing fast enough. Nakakafrustrate minsan, lalo na kung parang wala namang nakaka-appreciate. But here’s the tea—doing good isn’t about recognition. It’s about purpose. It’s about knowing in your core that you’re contributing to something greater than yourself.

We often hear phrases like “Be the change you want to see in the world” or “Small actions lead to big impacts.” These aren’t just clichés; they’re truths rooted in the idea that power—when used selflessly—can ripple outwards. Imagine if each of us in this generation decided to use our unique strengths for good. Ang laking impact kaya nun! From coding apps that solve social issues to organizing donation drives, even to just being a friend who listens—lahat ‘yan forms of exerting power to do good.

Sophocles’ wisdom challenges us to rethink how we view our capabilities and opportunities. Instead of chasing self-serving goals, he urges us to channel our power towards collective upliftment. Whether you’re starting a sustainable business, mentoring a younger sibling, or raising awareness for an important cause, every effort counts.

So, ano nga ba ang legacy na gusto mong iwan? It doesn’t have to be world-changing on a massive scale. Even if you make a positive difference in one person’s life, you’ve already lived up to your “glorious task.” As Gen Zs and Millennials, we’re often called the most socially conscious generations. Let’s live up to that reputation by using our power—our influence, our voices, our talents—to create a better, kinder, and more inclusive world.

Remember: the real glory is... hindi nasusukat sa dami ng likes or followers. It’s in the lives we touch, the change we inspire, and the good we leave behind. Go out there and flex your power—not for yourself, but for the greater good. Because – “To exert his power in doing good is man’s glorious task.” And that, my friends, is the kind of legacy worth striving for.

PNK Year-End Thanksgiving 2024: Patuloy Na Magbigay Kasiyahan sa Diyos ang Kaniyang Bayan

As another year draws to a close, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) once again gathers to celebrate the Year-End Thanksgiving—a sacred and joyous occasion to reflect on God’s countless blessings.

Among the most heartwarming parts of this celebration is the participation of the Church’s youngest members through the Pagsamba ng Kabataan (PNK), or Children’s Worship Service (CWS). Through this special worship, the children express their love, gratitude, and unwavering commitment to “patuloy na magbigay kasiyahan sa Diyos”.

The Heart of Thanksgiving: The PNK’s Role

In the Iglesia Ni Cristo, teaching children the importance of worshiping God starts early. The Pagsamba ng Kabataanserves as a foundation for their faith, instilling biblical principles, discipline, and a love for God’s words. During the Year-End Thanksgiving, this service takes on even greater significance, as children reflect on how God has guided and blessed them throughout the year.

This worship is not just a routine but a sacred offering of praise. As the Bible teaches:

“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3, NIV).

The PNK Year-End Thanksgiving becomes a beautiful expression of how the Church’s children—God’s precious gifts—are taught to recognize His presence in their lives.

Patuloy na Magbigay Kasiyahan sa Diyos

The theme, “Patuloy na magbigay kasiyahan sa Diyos ang kaniyang bayan,” is not just for adults but also for the children. Even at a young age, the members of the PNK are encouraged to live in a way that pleases God. Through simple yet heartfelt acts—such as praying diligently, attending worship services, obeying their parents, and showing kindness to others—these young members learn that giving joy to God is not just about grand gestures but about consistency and sincerity.

During the Year-End Thanksgiving, the PNK offers songs of praise, prayers of gratitude, and their own offerings prepared by their parents. Each child is taught that every little act of obedience, every prayer, and every hymn sung is pleasing in the sight of God. Their young voices, lifted in unity, resound as a pure and powerful offering of thanksgiving.

A Year of Blessings and Guidance

For the children, this Year-End Thanksgiving is a time to look back and appreciate all the blessings God has provided: the good health that allowed them to study and play, the care and guidance of their parents, and the joy of being active in the faith. It’s also a time to acknowledge God’s help through challenges, big or small, and to be reminded of the importance of staying close to Him in the coming year.

The PNK officers and teachers play a key role in this spiritual journey, guiding the children with patience and love. Through the worship service, the children are reminded that their faith is a treasure to cherish. They are encouraged to keep obeying God’s will, for in doing so, they bring joy not only to Him but also to their parents, loved ones, and the entire Church.

Strengthening the Faith of Future Leaders

The Year-End Thanksgiving of the PNK is more than a celebration—it is a preparation for the future. These children are the next generation of Church officers, leaders, and faithful members who will continue the work of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. By actively participating in worship services and giving thanks, they learn that living a life of faith begins now, in their youth.

As Proverbs 22:6 says:

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (NKJV).

This Year-End Thanksgiving becomes a moment of planting seeds of faith that will grow stronger with time. Through the PNK, children are molded to love worshiping God, to trust in His promises, and to live in a way that always gives joy to Him.

A United Offering of Gratitude

The beauty of the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s Year-End Thanksgiving is how it unites every member—young and old—in one purpose: to thank and glorify God. The children of the PNK are not spectators; they are active participants in this sacred occasion. Their genuine faith and youthful devotion remind us all of the purity and sincerity that God desires from His people.

In the simple prayers of the children, in their innocent voices singing praises, and in their smiles of gratitude, the Church sees a glimpse of God’s joy. These young worshipers inspire everyone to hold onto their faith and to continue living in ways that bring honor to the Almighty.

Continuing to Please God

As we close another year and look forward to a new one, the PNK reminds us of a timeless truth: pleasing God should remain the priority of His people. No matter how young or old we are, each of us has the capacity to give joy to our Creator.

For the children of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, the Year-End Thanksgiving is more than a responsibility—it’s a celebration of faith, love, and gratitude. Through their participation in the Pagsamba ng Kabataan, they embody the theme of “Patuloy na magbigay kasiyahan sa Diyos,” showing us all that a life dedicated to worship and obedience is one that truly brings joy to the One who blesses us all.

Let us continue to nurture these young souls, for through them, the future of the Church shines bright. May God’s people—young and old—remain steadfast in giving joy and glory to Him, now and forever.

The Importance of Recognizing Church Leaders' Birthday (Happy Birthday po Ka Eduardo!)

Celebrating a church leader's birthday can hold deep significance for a congregation, grounded in Biblical principles of honoring those who lead and serve with dedication. The Bible calls us to respect and appreciate our leaders, recognizing the ways they labor in teaching, guiding, and spiritually nurturing the community. Acknowledging their birthday is one way to show appreciation in a way that’s both scripturally sound and personally meaningful.

In 1 Timothy 5:17, we read, “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.”

This verse reminds us that church leaders, who dedicate themselves to the ministry, are deserving of our respect and gratitude. Birthdays offer a natural opportunity to put this instruction into practice, letting leaders know that they are valued not only for their spiritual guidance but for who they are as individuals. It’s a time for the congregation to show appreciation and offer blessings, reinforcing the bond of community and the shared journey in faith.

Recognizing a church leader’s birthday can also be a way of affirming their humanity.

Leaders, often tirelessly involved in serving others, can sometimes feel isolated or weighed down by their responsibilities. Acknowledging their birthday allows the congregation to step in, uplift, and encourage them. Celebrating a birthday is a gentle reminder that they are seen, appreciated, and supported—not only for their role but as people with hopes, challenges, and needs.

In addition, celebrating a leader’s birthday with humility and joy creates a positive atmosphere within the church without veering into fanatical worship. It’s not about elevating the leader to an idol-like status, which the Bible warns against, but about expressing appreciation for their stewardship. Hebrews 13:7 states,

“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.”

Recognizing birthdays provides a way to reflect on the example leaders set in their faith walk and to thank God for their impact on the community.

The benefits of such recognition are tangible for both leaders and the congregation. For the leader, it brings encouragement, strength, and renewed motivation. For the congregation, it strengthens unity, as members come together to express gratitude and to pray for the continued wisdom and well-being of their leader. This unity, in turn, fosters a stronger sense of spiritual growth and mutual support within the church.

Celebrating a church leader's birthday is an occasion to honor and encourage them, fostering community and expressing Biblical gratitude. When done with sincere appreciation, it becomes an act of faith —a reminder of our interconnectedness and a celebration of the gifts God has bestowed on us through our leaders.
